A picture of President Kennedy as Time’s Man of the Year was on the cover. That magazine was to remain in the same position on that table throughout all my visits. The issue was dated January 5—five months before their return from Russia. I wondered whether the Time Kennedy-cover’s place of honor was Lee’s or Marina’s doing. If Lee’s, it could have been a sign of fascination, healthy or unhealthy, with the young president.
